With the successful completion of tunneling works by the TPT5000 earth pressure balance shield machine, the shield construction section of the China Coal Yuhuan Phase III Expansion Water Intake and Drainage Project has been successfully completed. The achievement has laid a solid foundation for the overall completion and operation of the project and effectively guaranteed the construction progress of the supporting water intake facilities for the power plant.
As a core supporting water intake project for the power plant, the China Coal Yuhuan Phase III Expansion Water Intake and Drainage Project features a total shield tunneling length of 1,000 meters. The construction section mainly passes through silty clay strata, which are characterized by poor soil uniformity and weak stability. Such geological conditions are prone to stratum disturbance and settlement deviation during tunneling, placing extremely high requirements on the tunneling stability, stratum adaptability and parameter control accuracy of shield equipment, thus bringing great challenges to construction management.
The TPT5000 earth pressure balance shield machine adopted for the project is a customized model tailored for water intake tunnel construction. With scientific and reasonable equipment parameters and stable overall performance, the machine is highly adaptable to the construction scenarios of power plant water intake tunnels. It features an excavation diameter of 5.04 meters, a main body length of 9.2 meters and a total machine length of 77 meters. Its compact and well-organized structure perfectly meets the construction requirements of the 1,000-meter long-distance water intake tunnel. Targeting the silty clay strata dominating the construction route, the shield machine can accurately adapt to stratum characteristics and effectively avoid common construction problems in silty clay tunneling, including hole collapse, ground settlement and tunneling stagnation.
Throughout the construction process, the TPT5000 shield machine delivered outstanding overall performance with strong adaptability, stable operation and high tunneling efficiency.
