The Yangzhou Dilong NPD930 Retractable Slurry Balance Pipe Jacking Machine has been successfully launched and officially put into service for the Nannan Tunnel Crossing Shuanglong Avenue Project in Nanjing. It marks the official start of pipe jacking construction for the tunnel and creates favorable conditions for the tunnel to safely pass beneath the urban arterial road.
Located in Nanjing, the construction section of the project passes underneath Shuanglong Avenue. Adopting an innovative construction scheme without a receiving shaft, the tunnelling route traverses soil layers and sandstone strata with variable geological conditions. The special construction layout combined with complex strata puts forward unique requirements for the structural form of pipe jacking equipment and tunnelling schemes.
Custom-developed by Yangzhou Dilong to suit the project’s working condition of no receiving shaft, the NPD930 retractable slurry balance pipe jacking machine features a full-machine retractable function. In response to the alternating distribution of soil and sandstone along the route, two types of cutterheads — a profiling cutter and a foldable rock cutterhead — can be flexibly switched. The design effectively satisfies the demands for soft soil cutting and hard rock breaking, properly addresses tunnelling challenges in composite strata, and fully adapts to the special construction method without a receiving shaft.
During construction, the service team of Yangzhou Dilong maintained full-time on-site presence, continuously monitored the tunnelling status of the equipment, optimized tunnelling parameters in a timely manner according to geological changes, and efficiently resolved various on-site technical issues to ensure steady progress of the undercrossing construction beneath the main road.
The Nannan Tunnel Crossing Shuanglong Avenue Project serves as an important local transportation supporting project. Upon completion, the tunnel will improve the regional traffic network. The smooth implementation of the project also verifies the feasibility of adopting retractable pipe jacking equipment equipped with multiple cutterheads for construction without receiving shafts in composite strata, accumulating valuable construction experience for similar urban undercrossing projects.
